Tie-Breaking Criteria in the WNBA

Criteria for Determining the Winner in Case of a Tie

In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the following criteria will be used to determine the winner, in the order set forth:

1. Head-to-Head Record

The team with the better record in head-to-head games against the other tied teams will be declared the winner.

2. Winning Percentage Against Teams with .500 or Better Record

If the teams are tied in head-to-head record, the team with the better winning percentage against all teams with a record of .500 or better at the time the tie is broken will be declared the winner.

3. Point Differential in Head-to-Head Games

If the teams are still tied after the first two criteria, the team with the better point differential in head-to-head games will be declared the winner.

4. Point Differential Against Teams with .500 or Better Record

If the teams are still tied after the first three criteria, the team with the better point differential against all teams with a record of .500 or better at the time the tie is broken will be declared the winner.

5. Coin Toss

If the teams are still tied after the first four criteria, a coin toss will be used to determine the winner.
