Former NBA Star Embraces Olympic Beach Volleyball

Chase Andrew Budinger, born May 22, 1988, is an American Olympic beach volleyball player and former professional basketball player. After an eight-year NBA career, Budinger transitioned to the sand in 2018, embarking on a new chapter in his athletic journey.

Basketball Beginnings

Budinger's basketball career began at the University of Arizona, where he played under legendary coach Lute Olson. He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft and went on to play for several NBA teams, including the Indiana Pacers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Brooklyn Nets.

Transition to Beach Volleyball

After retiring from basketball in 2019, Budinger decided to pursue his love for beach volleyball. He teamed up with John Hyden, a former professional indoor volleyball player, and the duo began their competitive journey.

Olympic Debut

Budinger and Hyden were selected to represent the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Although the Games were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the pair remained committed to their Olympic dream. They ultimately competed in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, finishing ninth overall.

Budinger stands 6'7" tall and weighs 220 pounds. His athleticism and vertical leap make him a formidable presence at the net in beach volleyball.

On the court, Budinger typically plays as a blocker. In his NBA career, he averaged 7.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Budinger is married and has three children. He is known for his passion for fitness and healthy living, and he is often seen training on the beach in Hermosa Beach, California, where he resides.
