Understanding Dissection Regions
Gastric cancer dissection involves the removal of the stomach and surrounding lymph nodes. In a limited D1 dissection, the primary tumor and perigastric N1 lymph nodes are removed. In a more extensive D2 dissection, additional lymph node stations (8a, 9, and 10) are also removed.
Japanese Research Guidance
The Japanese Research Society for Gastric Cancer provides specific guidelines for lymphadenectomy. Station numbers 1 to 7 are typically defined in pathology reports.
